Why is it that our beliefs always hang by a spider’s thread behind our instantaneous reactions? When life calls for trust, why do we embrace a cringe before we embrace a creed? I guess that’s just part of being a child of God in process. One day, I hope, my faith will lead, and my responses will follow. For now, it’s still the old way: faith always fighting to stay ahead of the threats and uncertainties of the present. That’s how it was when we heard a loud and jolting rumble on I-80 as we neared Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
“Jesus . . . our tire just blew out.” That’s all my heart said in the moment.
